RE-ELECTION CAMPAIGN FOR ANA ESCOBAR
My longtime friend, Ana Escobar, is running for re-election as Judge for General Sessions Division III, a position she’s held for the past three years. As a judge, Ana presides over specialized courts for domestic violence cases and survivors of human trafficking.
I have personal experience with our Metro Court System. In 2009, I was a victim of an aggravated attempted robbery. During that experience, I learned first-hand how important it is to have an attentive, empathetic Judge who can demonstrate justice for both victims and defendants with humanity and dignity. Navigating a General Sessions courtroom is chaotic and overwhelming for both parties, and it’s the Judge who plays a critical role in deftly managing this process while ensuring that everyone’s voices are heard.
Ana is that person.
In her first term on the bench of General Sessions Division III, Ana has proven herself as a tireless advocate. During her career, she has:
Worked as an Assistant Public Defender and solo practioner for ten years, and realizes the importance of good representation in the courts
Worked with over 20 boards & commissions, including groups like the YWCA to change harassment law at the state level
Provided guidance to enhance training for MNPD and the Office of Family Safety around signs and risks of strangulation to improve prosecution
Launched the Human Trafficking Survivor’s Court Foundation to support victims’ transition back into society
Offered diverse perspective as a first generation immigrant, Tennessee’s first Latinx judge and as a single mother
Let’s keep this incredible woman on the bench. It’s where she’s meant to be.
